The seminar served as a platform for dialogue on key issues towards strengthening SADC-PF’s strategic approach and its transformation agenda. Participants discussed and compared the varying institutional development paths taken by the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). This included information exchange on best practices in terms of membership, mandates and how these parliaments have been able to maintain financial autonomy, and also how to face challenges and setbacks. In doing so, participants had the opportunity to reflect on the institutional strengths, roles and coordination of Africa’s regional parliamentary bodies in the evolving development aid landscape.
