Elections in Burundi are planned in 2015 at different institutional levels. A roadmap to the 2015 polls has been drawn during a policy workshop organised by BNUB in Bujumbura in March 2013. On that occasion, AWEPA was invited to enter the discussion panels. As a result, one of the recommendations is that political parties have to increase their rate of participation of women, youth and persons with a handicap in public institutions, as stipulated in the Burundian Constitution and international instruments. Therefore, eight members of the social committee of the Burundian National Assembly have been designated to visit Kampala, Uganda, in the framework of the Ugandan parliamentary work. The main objective of this visit is to exchange with Ugandan MP’s and other political authorities about the representation in public institutions of women, youth and persons with handicap. The AWEPA representative of the Bujumbura Office will join the delegation. This activity will take place from 19 to 23 May 2013.
Location: Parliament of Uganda
