Brussels, 18-21 March 2013. Nine members of the Human Rights Committee of the National Legislative Assembly of South Sudan went on a study visit to the European Parliament. As part of the four-day study programme, the South Sudanese delegation met the European Parliament Sub-Committee on Human Rights. During this meeting they exchanged views with President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz and participated in a workshop on capacity building for human rights. Also the South Sudanese parliamentarians gained information about the role of the European Union and the European Parliament in support of human rights, specifically in South Sudan. The programme is tailored for the Human Rights Committee of the National Legislative Assembly of the Republic of South Sudan, with which AWEPA and the European Union have been partnering since 2011.
